Hi! It’s Grant here. Welcome back to Business Breakthrough. There are three zones in every business. No matter where you’re at in business, no matter how long you’ve been in business, you’ll be in one of these zones, and there are only three. So, why don’t you tell me in the comments below which one you’re in?
The first zone is the green zone, and that’s known as the emergent zone. It’s such an exciting zone to be in. You’ll have new thoughts and new ideas. You’ll be trying new stuff. You’ll be excited. You’ll either have a budget or no budget. You’ll be scared. You’ll be starting out. It’s a green field. It’s that new place that you’re going into, right? So, that’s the green zone. And you might have been in business for 30 years and today, you’re in a green zone, and that’s really, really cool.
Now, after the green zone comes a whole bunch of implementation and trying, so you’re on your way up. So, the green zone takes you up into what’s known as the blue zone, and that’s a performance zone. In the performance zone, you’ll have implemented a whole heap of the ideas and strategies that you had in the green zone. Some will have worked, some won’t have worked, but you’ll have refined your process and refined your model, and you’ll be in this gorgeous performance zone. People will be attracted to your business, you’ll be making money, you’ll be certain, you’ll have systems, policies, and procedures, and everything will be going great, all right? And that’s where you want to be most of the time.
But from time to time, you’ll slip into the red zone, and the red zone is an emergency zone. And in that emergency zone or that reactive zone, something will have gone a little bit wrong. So, you’ve either forgotten how to do what you did emerging into the blue zone or from the green zone, or something will have happened outside of your control. Staff might have left, suppliers might have dropped off, the marketplace may have changed, you’ve taken your eye off the bull at some point, and you’ve found yourself in this red zone. You’re a bit like, “Ahh! What’s going on?”
All you got to do to find your way back into the blue zone again is attach some of those green zone ideals that you had in the first place. How do you do it? Take a step back, have a look at your business through a fresh set of eyes and a fresh perspective. It’s not quite start again, but it’s have a look with some fresh eyes and see it again for the first time. See what you have. Pretend, in a lot of ways, like you’re the new business owner for that business. It’s not always easy to do, and that’s where I go to work with your business.
