It is amazing how many sales people I meet that struggle with authenticity.  It is like they are one person when they are at work or with colleagues and another, entirely different person when they are at home with their family.  These are the kind of people that feel a twinge of anxiety when mixing between personal and business lives.  A distant part of my memory can still access that feeling.  I am certain that I was like that in my early days in sales.  Truly authentic sales people will succeed far beyond the level of non-authentic sales people.  Why?  Because they stand OUT for being authentic.  Authenticity is not something that you can “do” it is something that you need to be.  Your customers will see it and hear it in your body, your tonality and your words.  The words part is to the extreme lesser of extents.  You really MUST stop worrying about what you are saying and focus on what others are hearing and seeing.  Sales people who have children are far more blessed than those who do not, if they are to break this cycle.  The simple test of authenticity is to ask yourself if this is how you would behave if your son or daughter was watching you and could hear your thoughts.  No kids?  No problem!  How would you act if every single thought that you have and are about to have was written down in some huge book and anyone, anywhere, at any time could read it without you knowing.  What would you have to do differently.
Sadly, there is a group of sales people out there who really don’t care what other people think of them. Â These guys are like young drivers who speed and drink and drive. Â They give a bad name to all of the other young drivers who are doing the right thing. Â Sadly, also, consumers tend to tar all sales people to the one brush, depending on their last experience with a sales “professional”
So who is going to “be” the difference? Â Is it you?
Could YOUR personality shine through so brightly that simply the act of naturally turning up and just being your authentic, best self could make the world of difference?
I truly trust that this will work for you when you decide to fully immerse yourself into the culture of who you truly are. Â It has served me well for over 20 years and I have seen it serve countless thousands of others whom I have trained. Â The choice is yours.
This my friend has made a world of difference in my approach to business this year, such an easy concept – although difficult to nail without the benefit of coaches encouragement!
